We
had intended to stay in Eureka before heading to Ferndale, but I
wound up missing a boondocking place I'd heard about just outside
of town, so we ended up staying at the Humboldt
County Fairgrounds in Ferndale and drove back to Eureka
for our expeditions there.

Eureka
is a quaint little Victorian seaport town and this boardwalk is
one of the crown jewels in it's restoration crown. See Malia's
Miles page for pics of my two favorite Victorian homes there
and our dining experience at Samoa Cookhouse.

After
lunch at Samoa Cookhouse, a unique Eureka tradition lumberjack-family-style
restaurant, we then wandered into the city park (Sequoia Park) which
was a real unexpected treat. There was a lovely walk through a heavily
forested area - that's mom looking like a little slit on the trail
amid giant trees and lush greenery.

| I
climbed up a little hill for a bigger view - Hi mom! |

I
always love these little bridges across babbling brooks.

We
got a kick watching this little girl slide down this big fallen
tree.

Then
there's a path that allows you to drive through a grove of ancient
Sequoia trees. The shapes, colors and textures of the barks of the
trees were endlessly fascinating.
