When
we left Crescent City, our next destination was Eureka, but we were
too intriqued by pictures we saw of Lady Bird Johnson Grove to pass
that by. The road up to the grove is too steep and the designated
RV parking at the bottom of the hill didn't feel secure enough to
leave my motorhome there. So I parked the RV at the visitor's center
in Orick and drove the car back to the grove.

It's
a pretty easy 1+ mile loop from the parking lot down small paths
with low-lying ferns among humongous trees. Could we ever get tired
of the redwoods? I don't think so...

We
could never resist standing inside of the hollowed out ones. It
made us sad to see the charred insides even though the sign informed
us forest fires were a necessary process in the redwoods' lives.

So
we went around and comforted them as best we could...

I
loved the twisted and unique shapes some of the trunks took as they
grew up and around others who came before.

This
was a particularly large alcove made inside one near the end of
the trail.
