Journaling

I had been told by several people not to miss visiting Granville Island, but had only been told that it was a cute artsy community and had a great farmers' market. We really ended up loving it more than we expected to given just that expectation.

There were vendors selling Italian homemade pasta and sauces and I was finally able to get some of the pecorino cheese I had been searching for to use in my pesto recipe. We sipped lattes outside of the French bread bakery in the square listening to a French street singer croon about the "Champs de Elyse" (or however in the hell you spell it - I had never even heard it said correctly with a real French pronunciation before this). We laughed joking that we had thought it was said like Champs (like the champ in champions) day Elease. Truly it was a "bon jour."

The cherry on top was that today was the last day of their "maple sugaring off party" and they were serving fresh hot pancakes and their prized Canadian maple syrup in tents around the water looking off to downtown Vancouver.
The market held all sorts of local products, but I was most impressed with the produce stalls - rows and rows of the freshest looking fruits and vegetables I've ever seen. Each one looked like it had been polished by hand without a blemish to be seen anywhere.
Hungry seagulls eat right from your hands on the deck.
A downtown jewel: Queen Elizabeth Park
