| If
I have to work while I'm here, I'm glad it's in downtown Portland.
I work in the tallest building in the picture below - at the law office
of Davis, Wright, Tremaine in the Wells Fargo Building. |

When the
weather is clear, we have a glorious view of Mt. Hood and that makes
it all the more difficult to be cooped up inside shuffling paper
and staring at a computer screen.

The various
bridges that span the sparkling water are visible from the huge
conference room. I love walking around downtown during lunch. Pioneer
Square was especially nice - lots of people sitting out on the steps
basking in the nice fall weather.

The trees
were gloriously colorful in places - brilliant where the leaves
still clung to the trees, and carpeting the streets in gold where
they fell. It's nice that they have all these neat little parks
scattered throughout downtown and I particularly love this buck
in the middle of the road. I enjoyed strolling down the Park Blocks
and through the university campus and sipping lattes while resting
my feet.

Portlandia
is the second largest cast bronze statue, after the Statue of Liberty.
I greet her in the morning as I pass under her on my walk to work.

I
really got a kick out of this brass salmon sticking out of this
building.

Only complaint
I have about working downtown is the commute. Since parking in downtown
Portland is prohibitively expensive, I take the light rail (the
"Max") to work. It takes about 1-1/2 hours total to get
from my door to work, including getting to the park & ride,
the Max ride, then a 7 block walk to the building. I could get a
bus from the Max to the building, but the weather has been nice
enough to give me an excuse to get a little exercise where I can.
