Our
first destination in Canada was Vancouver. We originally thought
we'd make the 325 mile drive from Portland in one day, but we ended
up spending the night in Mt. Vernon, WA because of horrific traffic
in Seattle and Everett. So we boondocked at WalMart and made the
last 100 miles easily today. It took us about an hour to get through
the border between immigration and customs - they did a somewhat
cursory search of the RV's and kept reiterating that they were looking
for guns because "Americans sometimes forget they are illegal
in Canada." I suspect they made the effort because the perception
of Texans and handguns going together is a common one. The officers
were 2 very nice women who were complimentary about my home and
journey.
We
reached our RV park destination in nearby Richmond in time to set
up and enjoy the sunshine in Stanley Park during our first day in
Vancouver. The mountains framing the massive city and that beautiful
1,000 acre park so close and vital to it were a perfect introduction
to Canada.
